PhD is not now Compulsory- in details
While talking to PTI, UGCC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar released the statement “PhD qualification for appointment as an assistant professor would continue to be optional. The National Eligibility Test (NET), State Eligibility Test (SET) and State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) shall be the minimum criteria for the direct recruitment to the post of assistant professor for all Higher Education Institutions,” During 2018, The UGC used to provide the 3-year window for interested candidates for the completion of their PhDs, therefore clarify their salary requirement for the post of the entry-level posts. However, in 2021, UHC extended the date of the applicability of the PhD in July 2021 to July 2023 for the post of assistant professor in the university. The decision came amidst the Covid pandemic making the research work a tiresome task to perform which is not pre-launched at the present times, as is “not favourable” in the current education system, says Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Now the interested candidate needs to paper for another exam like the National Eligibility Test (NET), State Eligibility Test (SET) and State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) which will be the minimum criteria of selection for the post of the assistant professor.
